Kallon Held By The Police?

The bad blood between the former Sierra Leone skipper Mohammed Kallon (34), and the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Isha Johansen, seem to have taken a violent turn, as Kallon told the police that Mrs Johansen slapped him.

Kallon who played for the French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco and Inter Milan, among other clubs, claimed that Isha Johansen slapped him at the back of his head, during the FA Cup encounter involving his team - FC Kallon Jr, in the capital Freetown on Thursday, last week.

The SLFA President Johansen refuted the claims of the former captain, and said she acted on self defence, after Mr Kallon used abusive language and pushed her during thier arguement.

Mr Kallon reported the matter to the police and was questioned and detained for several hours and was granted bail of $11,000 US dollars.

The bad blood between Kallon and Johansen started in 2013, when they both filed for the candidacy of the election of the President of SLFA. Mohammed Kallon and Michael Rodney were disqualified by FIFA, which left Mrs Isha Johansen elected unopposed.

Mr Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, the lawyer for Mohammed Kallon was outraged, that his client who went to report the assault to the police was questioned and detained for seven hours.

''I'm disappointed, shocked and surprised at the police's decision to detain Kallon,'' he told BBC Sports.

''This is unbelievable, my client is supposed to be the complainant not the defendant in this matter, because he was the one who was slapped and sustained bruises - and also he was the first to report the matter to the police,'' he added.

Mohammed Kallon is probably the biggest known football star from Sierra Leone. He was disqualified by FIFA from the election of 2013, because he did not meet up with the rules and regulations, which stipulated that a candidate must be living in the country for the past five years.

The other two candidates Michael Rodney and Foday Turay were also disqualified in the election for contravening article 25 of FIFA code of ethics which entails betting, gambling, lottery etc.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police Al Sheikh Kamara, told BBC Sport that they detained Mr kallon because he has a case to answer in the incident. He was released on Monday after posting the bail fee and must be back at the police station for further interogation on Tuesday.
