12 Dead As Algeria Celebrated World Cup Qualification

The government of Algeria has released a statement which stated that 12 people died and over 200 injured during the celebration of the country's 2014 World Cup qualification yesterday, after the national team, nicknamed the Desert Foxes defeated Burkina Faso 1 - 0 in the play-off.

Five fans were killed as their van went off the road in the capital, Algiers.
Another four died in a car accident in Biskra, while three were reported dead in other towns.

As soon as the match was over yesterday, many people took to the streets and city centres in jubilations.

Many drivers were driving recklessly and blowing their horns very loud in shared joy. Infact, the whole country was in a euphoric mood throughout yesterday, and even early hours of today.

Algeria lost the first leg of the play-off in Ouagadugou 3 - 2, but with the aggregate of 3 - 3, they qualified on the away goals rule.
