Emenike Booed At His Old Club

The Fenerbahce and Nigeria international powerful striker, Emmanuel Emenike, was booed and jeered as Fenerbahce played an away match, against his former club - Karabukspor in a league encounter at the weekend.

Fans of Karabukspor booed Emenike each time he was with the ball. His side lost the game 2 - 1 to the host club.

Emenike's Super Eagles team-mate, Joseph Akpala scored the opener for the home team while Emenike equalised 1 - 1 for the visitors.

After the match, Emenike was very disappointed with what happened in the stadium, and he made it known how he felt.

According to fanatik.com.tr, he said, ''I did not deserve this behaviour, because that city is one of the places that holds the biggest joy for me. I expected them to show me some understanding.''

''I am a professional footballer, currently I am wearing the shirt of Fenerbahce and so I must fight for my team to win, that is the normal thing,'' he said.

''We went there to win, but that did not happen. It was a nice feeling to play against my old team. The result did not reflect what we wanted in the match. We have good team and want to show that on the field,'' he added.

John Paintsil's Infiniti Jeep Stolen?

John Paintsil (32), the former Fulham, Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Ghana International, who now play his club football in South Africa, with the Cape Town club - Santos FC has reported to the police, that his Infiniti SUV was stolen from his home, in the early morning of the christmas day.

It was reported in the media that the footballer woke up yesterday, on the christmas day and found out that his jeep - Infiniti JX35 2013 model ($45,000) was missing from his garage in his Trasacco Valley residence.

John Paintsil (next to his Infiniti JX35 2013)

But according to sportinginghana a source disclosed that the vehicle was not actually stolen, but in the hands of his enstranged wife. It says that he just wants the police to retrieve the vehicle for him.

This latest news has added to the drama, which came to the open in Febuary this year, when the player was arrested by the Accra police, on the charge of assault of stabbing his wife with a kitchen knife.

His wife, Richlove Paintsil, later denied the assault allegations against her husband, claiming that they just had a family dispute, which should not be for public consumption.

But by then the damage has been done to the skillful defender's career. His contract, with his Isreali club Hapoel Tel-Aviv was not renewed and clubs in Europe, which were considering signing him especially in UK, then changed their minds, because of the domestic violence tag.

He then went to South Africa, and joined the Cape Town club - Santos FC since October. The latest drama in the Paintsils' Saga is still unfolding, we will see what will happen next.

Kenya Clinches Cecafa Challenge Cup

The Harambee Stars of Kenya has won the Cecafa Challenge Cup by beating Sudan 2 - 0 in the final in Nairobi.

Allan Wanga, the captain who plays his club football with AFC Leopards, put Kenya ahead at the 35th minute of the encounter, when he headed David Owino crossing into the net.

The Sudanese were playing very well, infact the tournament highest goal scorer, Ibrahim Salah was a thorn in the flesh of the host defence.

Though the Sudanese were threatening to even the scoreline, it was Allan Wanga, who once again at the 69th minute scored, making it 2 - 0, and that was how the match ended.

After the match, the hero of the day told the media, that he was very happy to have scored three goals in the East African tournament. He had earlier scored a goal in a match before the final.

''I am so happy to score three goals in the tournament and lead Harambee Stars to victory,'' he said euphorically.

Zambia took the third position after bettering Tanzania 6 - 5 in a penalty shoutout. Both teams played a 1 - 1 draw after the stoppage time.

Oliseh: Nigerian Bond Is Forever

Sunday Oliseh was a ferocious force for Nigeria's Super Eagles during the best moments in their history. Now retired and living in Belgium, the former holding midfielder spoke to FIFA.com about the highs and lows of USA 1994 and France 1998, the Olympic title that “no one can take away.” Also on the table in this frank discussion is the Nigerian football philosophy, terrace culture in the west African nation, former clubs like Ajax and Juventus and, of course, that goal from 1998 against Spain that will live on forever.

FIFA.com: Firstly, let’s just get it out of the way, and talk about that goal. Do you still get reminded of the long-range stunner you scored in the win over Spain at the 1998 World Cup?
Sunday Oliseh [Laughs] People don’t just ask me about the goal, or remind me about the goal, they show me the goal all the time. Just two days ago someone took me aside in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and played me the video on the internet. He asked me: ‘do you know the fellow who scored this goal?’ I just laughed.
Sunday Oliseh

You only scored four goals for the national team, so it must be a personal highlight to get such a cracker on such a big stage.I think it was God’s way of arranging things so that people wouldn’t forget me. Every time I see it I think to myself ‘wow, I never knew I was that good’ [laughs].

Can you talk a little bit about the power of football in your native Nigeria?
Nigeria has a philosophy of football. It’s a philosophy you can’t credit to anybody; it’s not down to an individual or a group. If anyone tries to take credit for it, he’s just telling lies. The philosophy is attacking football. Going forward, we’ve always been good. We’ve always played it this way.
Nigeria has a philosophy of football. The philosophy is attacking football. Going forward, we’ve always been good. We’ve always played it this way.
Sunday Oliseh
Nigerian fans seem happiest when the ball is pinging around – quick, one-touch passes.
It gets to the point when you hear the fans say ey, ey, ey with each pass of the ball and ooh when the team loses it. That ey is like when it starts to touch, when it starts to happen with the ball. It’s always been there, from long before my generation and when we were playing. That ey means, ‘yeah, go ahead, play.’ We touch it around and around and then when it gets taken away, the fans ooh as if to say: ‘give it back, give it back – it’s ours.’

As one of your country’s best-ever players, and a member of its so-called golden generation, how do you view the current state of football in Nigeria?
The moment my generation retired it was like somebody just shut the doors. Nigeria didn’t prepare for our departure. The golden generation just left and that was it. No one thought to bring some of the young ones into the team while we were still there, so they could learn from us. They should have been sitting on the bench to learn from me, and to learn from Jay-Jay Okocha and all the others. They could have asked us questions and we could have told them answers. We didn’t do that, and it was a real problem for the country’s football. Things fell off after us. We went onto a wilderness of trial and error for some years.

But the Super Eagles are reigning African champions now for the first time since 1994 and they’ve qualified for next year’s FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil.
The current national team coach Stephen Keshi, who was my captain at the World Cup in 1994, is a good one. Love him or loathe him, he brought back the African Cup of Nations title to the country, and the last time Nigeria did that was when we were playing.

Speaking of those great Super Eagle teams of old, can you talk about why, when everything looked to be falling into place, your teams from ’94 and ’98 stumbled at the first knockout round?
In the group stages we didn’t have to travel. We stayed still and so there were no logistical issues. We just played. But once we reached the next stage, we had to start moving around and there needed to be a plan. Our knowledge of preparations at the time were not good enough to help us through. We won our groups in both tournaments, but we had problems to solve after that, and it cost us.
Love him or loathe him, he brought back the African Cup of Nations title to the country, and the last time Nigeria did that was when we were playing.
Sunday Oliseh on Stephen Keshi
Do you feel a sense of having missed out on something great?
With the quality we had in 1994 and 1998 we should have at least gone to the quarter-finals, or maybe the semi-finals. But it’s a learning process.

On a brighter note, people still talk about the Nigerian Olympic-winning side from Atlanta 1996. You were barely 22 years old, but you played a crucial part alongside the likes of Okocha, Emmanuel Amunike and Taribo West. What did it meant to win Gold?
It was a world title and it’s something no one can take away. You are Olympic champion for all of your life. It was the first tournament ever where we played on a different continent, and we were there in America before everyone. We were there a month before the competition. We worked our behinds off and the team was young. Most of the players had a point to make. We had so much talent and it all came together. We covered for each other and we had the kind of luck you need to go all the way.

Do you often run into your old team-mates, guys like Taribo or Nwankwo Kanu?
At the holiday times, when I go home to Nigeria, I always run into these guys. And when we see each other, that’s it - I drop what I’m doing, all appointments are cancelled and I go talk about the old days with Taribo [West] or whoever else. We walk around Lagos and chat for hours and hours. The family complains, but who cares? [laughs] It’s never planned, it just happens.

It sounds like there’s a special bond with your team-mates.
We suffered a lot and we won things a lot, so there’s a bond. It’s there forever. My parents, they understand it when I disappear for these little meetings with my mates, but my brothers and sisters, they give me a hard time about it.

You’ve played for some top clubs, like Ajax, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund. Do you still follow their fortunes?
Absolutely. I live and breathe football. My wife always says ‘If I don’t have football I get sick.’ I follow all of my former clubs, with a passion. I hope every year to have at least one finish as a champion.

And how are you finding their progress?
For the past three years Ajax have been winning titles, so at least one of my ex clubs is winning. And Juventus is always Juventus, so that’s good. Dortmund is back at the top in Germany, so it’s fun for me. I’ll follow them all my life.

Dortmund, where you played for four years, seem to be going through an historic moment. Can you talk about it?

They are trying to revolutionise German football with the way they play. In the seven years I played in the country, and long before that, the German game was based on physical dominance. I love watching this current Dortmund team play because they’re going in a different direction.

But I’m not ashamed to say it: I love the way [Pep] Guardiola works with Bayern Munich. It’s a joy to watch the way Bayern is changing into a next-level team. The Germans call it Teamgeist, it’s like a team spirit, and they have so much of it. Everybody knows what to do and they know when to do it.

African Nations In The 2014 World Cup Draw

The much awaited World Cup draw, has finally arrived and by now all the participating countries knows, which teams they will be facing in the group phase, of the summer mundial.

How did the African countries fared in the draw?

In Group A, Cameroon who has the African record of 7 World Cup appearances, are in the same group as the host nation - Brazil, Croatia and Mexico. Brazil is not only the five times champion, but as the host and a very strong football nation, everyone expects them to qualify in the group.
They are also one of the favourites to win the cup for the sixth time.

Croatia, Cameroon and Mexico, though not as strong as they were during the times of Davor Suker, Roger Miller and Hugo Sanchez, will be putting up good performance in other to qualify from the group.

In Group C, is the African number one ranked team - Ivory Coast with Columbia, Greece and Japan. One can safely say that Ivory Coast, has a good chance of going through in this group.

There is no outstanding team to be afraid of in this group, even though Columbia has a deadly striker - Rademel Falcao of FC Monaco. I think that all the teams here have a good chance of qualifying from the group.

The next African country is Nigeria in Group F, with Argentina, Iran and Bosnia. Nigeria is once again paired with their World Cup nemesis - Argentina. In five World Cup appearances , Nigeria will be meeting Argentina for the fourth time. Nigeria lost their three previous WC encounters.

In 1994, Nigeria lost 2 - 1 in USA, in 2002 they lost 1 - 0 in South Korea/Japan and in 2010 in South Africa they lost again 1 - 0. They will be hoping to turn the tide this time around. Iran and Bosnia- Herzegovina can also spring a surprise in this group. Argentina and Nigeria seem likely to go through, that is on paper, because football is not mathematics.

Then in Group G, Ghana  seem to get the toughest of all the other African countries. Ghana is paired with two of the teams they played before in the previous World Cups - Germany and USA. They met USA in their first two appearances and Germany in 2010. They never met Portugal before. This is a strong group, any of them is capable of qualifying.

The last African team in the draw is Algeria in Group H with Russia, Belgium and Korea Republic. In this group Belgium in their current form is likely to go through with Russia. But as you know in football, anything can happen.

Group A
Brazil, Croatia, Cameroon and Mexico

Group B
Spain, Netherlands, Chile and Australia

Group C
Columbia, Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan

Group D
Uruguay, Costa Rica, England and Italy

Group E
Switzerland, Equador, France and Honduras

Group F
Argentina, Nigeria, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina

Group G
Germany, Ghana, Portugal and USA

Group H
Belgium, Russia, Algeria and Korea Republic

Toure Is BBC African Footballer Of The Year

Yaya Toure (30), the Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder, has won the 2013 BBC African footballer of the year. He beat John Mikel Obi of Chelsea, Jonathan Pitroipa of Rennes, Victor Moses of Liverpool and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of Dortmund to win the award.

Toure has been nominated consecutively in the past five years, without ever winning the award. After receiving the award from the BBC Sport, he said,
''I think I've been nominated for five years in a row and finally winning the award is amazing.''

''It's a fantastic achievement, because I don't think there has ever been as many quality African players, in top level international football as there are now - Aubameyang, Pitroipa, Mikel, Moses, Salomon Kalou, Gervinho...we have fantastic players.

BBC African Footballer Of The Year Award Trophy

''I also think African football is improving and that means a lot to us. And as an African, I'm very happy.''

He thanked fans all over the world, who voted for him in this year's award. And has continued to support him in his wonderful career.

''Thank you to all the fans around the world, who continue to support me. It shows how much fans love you and appreciate your job as well.

''It's something special, because it's not the vote of the manager or the club or the captain of the national team, it's just the fans.

Yaha Toure, who was obviously appreciative of the award, after lossing out in four previous nominations, said that he was much appreciative of the award, as it was decided by the fans.

''When you have a lot of fans behind you, it's always amazing. And I'm very happy as it is the fans, who have given it to me - so I'm very appreciative,'' he added.

A number of 44 football experts across Africa, drew up the shortlist for the BBC Award, with the criterion based on skill, teamwork, technical ability, consistency and fair play.

The football fans all the world, voted either online or by phone text message, for the player they think is the best this year.

Yaha Toure, is the reigning CAF African footballer of the year and is also in the shortlist for this year's award. He has a great chance of winning the award again this year. But you never know, it maybe a new name this year.

Alaba Extends His Bayern Contract

The Nigerian - Austrian born, Bayern Munchen young player, David Olatokunbo Alaba (21), has just extended his stay with the club to 2018. His former contract was due to expire in 2015.

After signing the extention contract, he said, ''I've been at Bayern since 2008 and I am very very, very happy.''

The Sporting Director, Mathias Sammer, said, ''At 21 you have not yet matured. The signal from David, to carry on here with us, is very important.''

David Alaba

Karl Heinz Rummenigge, the chairman of the club, who obviously was very impressed with the boy's developement, since he joined Bayern in 2008, from Austria Vienna at the age of 16, said, ''He developed wonderfully on the pitch.''

''The coach (Pep Guardiola) is very happy, we are very happy. David has made a major contribution to ensuring, that we have had many successes this year,'' he added.

Alaba has been a vital part of the first team in Munich. He broke into the first team at the age of 17 and has been developing amazingly. David also was called to the Austrian national team at the age of 17 and he remains the youngest player to represent Austria and has played 30 times already.

He has already won so many titles at such a young age, both with the club and individually. He won two league titles two DFB Pokal Cups (FA Cups).
And the best of all, was winning Champions League. He is currently the Sportsman of the year in Austria.

For many Nigerian fans who has been asking why he chose to represent Austria instead of Nigeria. It was reported that in 2007 he wanted to represent Nigeria at the 2007 FIFA Under - 17 World Cup but some agents told him that Nigeria don't invite players that are not living in Nigeria for the Under - 17 team.

I am not sure if that was correct in 2007 but this year two players based outside Nigeria were included in the team. Habib Makanjuola (MF) is a member of the Chelsea Football Academy in London and Francis Uzoho (GK) is in Aspire Academy in Quatar.

Cameroon Book Their World Cup Spot

The Indormitable Lions of Cameroon, has qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, after thrashing Tunisia 4 - 1 on Sunday in the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Yaounde, in the second leg of the WC playoff.

Cameroon came into today's match, with the advantage of having drawn 0 - 0 in Tunis last month, during the first leg. The Indormitable Lions booked their place with a 4 - 1 aggregate scoreline.

The first goal of Cameroon was scored, just after four minutes of play, through the Fenerbahce striker Webo, who capitalized on the opponents defensive error and fired into the net. The host dorminated the match from the kickoff time.

In the 30th minute of the game, the FC Nancy player Moukandjo registered Cameroon's second goal beating the goalkeeper, Ben Cherifia again.

Like Victor Moses did yesterday after scoring against Ethiopia, he removed his jersey in celebration and was booked also.

The first half ended with 2 - 0, but Tunisia did not waste time in pulling one goal back as soon as the second half started, through Akaichi.

The Tunisia goal seemed to have made the Lions very angry, so they roared, within a few minutes, Makoun increased the scoreline to 3 - 1 giving them a comfortable two goals lead.

Cameroon continued their dorminance of the game and a few minutes to stoppage time, Makoun struck again and put the scoreline 4 - 1 beyond the reach of the Cartage Eagles.

Cameroon is the 3rd African country, to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, after Nigeria and Ivory Coast qualified yesterday.
The country has now qualified for a 7th World Cup appearance, which is an African record.

The remaining two spots for Africa will be filled on Tuesday, when Ghana play against Egypt in Cairo and Burkina Faso against Algeria in Algiers.
Ghana has a 6 - 1 lead over Egypt, while Burkina Faso has a slim lead of 3 - 2 against Algeria. The teams that has a higher aggregate score will qualify.

Nigeria Qualifies For Brazil 2014

The Nigeria Super Eagles, has booked their place in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, by beating Ethiopia 2 - 0 in the second leg encounter, at the U.J Esuene Stadium, in Calabar on Saturday. The Super Eagles had already beaten the Walya Antelopes 2 - 1 in the first leg in Addis Ababa, last month. Nigeria qualify for the summer soccer fiesta on a 4 - 1 aggregate scoreline.

The match was keenly contested, with the Nigerians creating more chances, which were not utilized as was anticipated, by their teeming fans that filled the stadium.

Nigeria's first goal came in the 18th minute, when Victor Moses' shot hit Aynalem Hailu, on his left hand and the referee Mr B. Gassama, awarded Nigeria a penalty. Victor Moses, calmly took a very good shot, directing the goalkeeper, Sisay Bancha, the wrong side for a 1 - 0 lead.

The first half of the match ended with the 1 - 0 in favour of the African Champions. The second half began much like the first half. The pacey Ethiopians had good possession of the ball but could not creat the much needed chances to score.

The Nigerians on the other hand played very well, though they did not dominate the match, as much as some fans were expecting them to do. Their experience in the international stage was came in handy, as they kept on pressing for another goal. They also defended very well.

The Super Eagles second goal came at the 80th minute, when Emenike was fouled as he was about to beat Bargicho, near the edge of his box. The referee gave Nigeria free kick. Victor Obinna Nsofor, who came in two minutes earlier on as a substituted for Victor Moses, took the free kick, which curled into the far post, beating Bancha the keeper, who could have done better.

Obinna Nsofor's free kick goal brought the scoreline to 2 - 0 and that was how the match ended, damping the hope of Ethiopians of upstaging Nigeria to the World Cup.

Nigeria is the first of the five African teams to qualify for the 2014 FIFA world Cup in Brazil. This is Nigeria's fifth World Cup qualification. Had it been that Ethiopia defeated Nigeria, it would have been their first world Cup qualification in their history.

Nigeria will now go ahead and start making good preparations for the tournament proper in Brazil. But before the players can go home, they have a friendly match in two days time in London against Italy. Congratulations to Nigeria, for their fifth World Cup qualification.

All Set For The Champions League Final In Cairo

Al Ahly and Orlando Pirates meet at Cairo’s Arab Contractors Stadium on Sunday 10 November with the winner going to be crowned African club champions. The Orange CAF Champions League two leg final is pegged at 1-1 going into the second match on Sunday.

Orlando Pirates, nicknamed the Buccaneers descended on the Egyptian capital with hordes of fans and coach Roger de Sa told Cafonline.com that there is all to play for and his charges will be go all out to emulate the team of 1995, “We are expecting a tough encounter and Ahly will have the support of their fans, something that has not happened for a while. They are at home and will feel they have the edge. We have relished playing away from home and the boys have coped well on tough away games, so the combination of these factors sets up a thrilling encounter” said Roger de Sa

Pirates have been forced into changes after the suspension of key players Happy Jele and Andile Jali but coach and players believe they will still put up a team strong enough to challenge Ahly.
Champions League Trophy (CAF)

Al Ahly for their part are happy that four of their keys players will be available to play after fears of various injuries. Earlier in the week, Mohammed Aboutrika scorer of Ahly ‘s goal last week in Soweto, South Africa, Walid Soliman, Ahmed Fathi and Emad Moteab were said to be nursing injuries but they are all expected to be available for Sunday’s game according to news from Al Ahly.

Meanwhile Pirates striker Lennox Bacela had been reflective about the first leg encounter and saying that the teams' and his approach on Sunday will be different. “We did not get much success out of our attempts to breakdown their defence during the Soweto match. The chances we created we also did not do justice to them and that what we have been working on. Ahly has massive experience in these matches and in this tournament and it is not going to be an easy game at all. We believe we can get a positive result on Sunday and will certainly use our speed and skill to unlock Ahly on Sunday. Said Becela

Al Ahly will be going for an eighth title while Pirates will be seeking their second win. The winner on Sunday will not only pocket US $1, 5 million dollars but earn the ticket to represent African at next month’s FIFA Club World Cup to be held in Morocco. Africa will have two club sides at this tournament with, Raja Casablanca (winners of Morocco league) already qualified.

Al Ahly will have a special visitor in the stands with news that former “Red Devil” coach, Portuguese Manuel Jose returns to Cairo to watch the final match. Under Jose Al Ahly reached four consecutive Champions League finals from 2005 to 2008, winning all but the 2007 final.

So whether the presence of Manuel Jose or the memory of Buccaneers’ historic away win to ASEC MIMOSAS in 1995 will provide the extra drive and spur “Red Devils” or “Sea Robbers” by end of Sunday we will know who 2013 Orange CAF Champions League winner is.

Nigeria vs Sweden (U 17 WC)

To put the game beyond the reach of the Swedes, two minutes later at the 82nd minute, as the Swedes were trying to recover from the shock of conceding another goal, the 16 year old, the youngest player in the Nigeria team, Chidera Ezeh, who had missed a couple of scoring chances, scored the third goal of the match and his first of the tournament.

Hayatou's Surprise Visit To The Golden Eagles Camp

Isa Hayatou (67), the President of the Confederation of the African Football, paid a surprise visit to the Golden Eaglets at the Intercontinental Hotel where they are camped for the ongoing FIFA under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

He praised them for their high level skills and intelligence in the tournament which he said was lacking for quite some time now from African teams. The CAF president told the youngsters, that he was not surprised at their progress in the tournament, because he saw their performance at the CAF under 17 championship, this year in Morocco and was highly impressed.

Issa  Hayatou (President of CAF)

''You have displayed a high level of skills and intelligence in this tournament, that we have not seen in an African team for a long time.

''I am not surprised at your progress here, because I saw you at the CAN
U-17 championship in Morocco and I was highly impressed.''

''I am particularly excited with your performance against Uruguay, despite missing a number of injured players. I believe you are already in the final. The African football family is fully behind you,'' he said.

Hayatou who was accompanied in the visit by the second vice president of CAF, Almamy Kabele Camara and the FIFA executive member, Mohammed Raouraoua, urged the young Nigerian players to forget that Nigeria has won the title thrice before and concentrate on writing their own names in gold, by winning the tournament a record four times.

''Yes, Nigeria has won the competition three times before but that was done by other players. Now, it is your opportunity to write your own names in gold. I believe you have the talent, intelligence and resilience to go all the way,'' he added.

After Hayatou's encouraging words the Nigerian Football Federation, president Aminu Maigari thanked him for his visit and assured him that the Eaglets are fully motivated and ready to do Africa proud.

''It is a huge honour to have the CAF president visit any team in the middle of a tournament, because of his very tight schedules. We are assuring you that our boys are able and ready to do the African continent proud,'' he said.

Awoniyi who replaced the injured Success Isaac, scored the first goal in the 18th minute when Kelechi Iheanacho, put a pass through to him and he tucked it away into the net like a gifted goal poacher.

The Eaglets dorminated the match with good ball possessions and passes, but the Uruguay put up a good fight. Both teams missed some good chances to score. The two goalkeepers saved some scary moments for their teams too.

                                  Nigeria vs Uruguay U 17 W. Cup

In the 79th minute of the game, Kelechi Iheanacho, who had scored five goals in the tournament so far, unselfishly laid a good pass in the box for Awoniyi, who did not make any mistake in putting away the ball into the net.

Iheanacho and Awoniyi had good understanding up front, just as Isaac and Iheanacho had good understanding of each other's movements.

Ghana Crushed Egypt In The Play-Off

Ghana displayed a high quality performance and demolished Egypt 6 - 1 on Tuesday in Kumasi, in their first leg of two encounters, to the 2014 World Cup qualification play-offs.

In the game of football, one is never completely sure of the out-come of a match, no matter who you are playing. No one could've sincerely predicted, the crushing defeat of the mighty Pharaohs of Egypt. Yes, may be a 2 - 1 or 3 - 2 win, but certainly not what we saw on Tuesday. Die hard fans or not. This is one of the reasons, why football is the most beautiful game in the world.

Ghana Football Fans

All credit to the Black Stars and coach Kwesie Appiah, who understood the implication of not taking a good advantage of home game. If a team fail to take the advantage of home turff and fans, it may end up facing a Herculean task on away match. Ghana understood this reality in the game.

Ghana put up a five star performance, right from the kick-off time, to the final whistle and surprised not only the Egyptians, but many football fans watching the game around the world. It was the stuff of brave hearts.

In the 4th minute of the match, Gyan Asamoah, the captain, collected a pass from Waris and turned away from his marker with such a pace and struck the ball to the low, far left end of the post, which electrified the fans, with joy. It was the first of the avalanche of harvest of goals.

The second goal, though was an own goal by the Egyptian captain Gomaa, it was due to the individual effort and dribble skills of Michael Essien. The ball hit the captain and went into the net, for a 2 - 0 lead. But the tally was reduced, when the Ghanaian defender, Rashid Sumaila, brought down the pacey, Mohammed Salah in the box. The experienced Mohammed Aboutrika, did not miss the penalty shot, 2 - 1.

In the second half, Majeed Waris, headed the host to a 3 - 1 lead. And not very long after, the bicycle keep of Sulley Muntari, bouced up and Asamoah headed into the net for a 4 - 1 comfortable lead.

The Black Stars kept up the pressure, when the referee ruled that Majeed Waris, was brought down in the box by the Egyptian goalkeeper, Ahmed Elshenwi, who replaced the injured first choice keeper, Elramy. Sulley Muntari, calmly took the penalty and made it 5 - 1.

The second beautiful goal of the match came through the substitue, Christian Atsu. (The other was Asamoah first goal). Atsu took a good shot from the edge of the box, to the far end of the post and beat the keeper, to complete the score line to a 6 - 1 advantage. With this score, Ghana has put themselves in a very powerful position, before next month second leg in Cairo, Egypt.

All the Black Stars on the pitch played with urgency, dedication and the determination to win in a convincing manner. They played as a team, and it was worthy of emulation by some players in Africa, who play with much ego and selfishness. The players pace and passes were very impressive indeed.

The Egyptians were out-played, it was a situation that no one fore-saw. They did not look like a team, many countries wanted to avoid in the play-offs, because they were the only country with 100% record throughout the WC qualification process, untill this amazing humiliation in Kumasi.

Egypt has an uphill battle to surmount in November's second leg, while Ghana has a duty not to allow, their surprised huge advantage slip away. The Black Stars can now smell being part of soccer fiesta in Brazil 2014, their third World Cup qualification. Their qualification is in their hands.

Nigeria Beats Ethiopia In The WC Play-Off

The Super Eagles of Nigeria came from a goal down in the Saturday World Cup, first of the two leg play-offs to win the encounter 2 - 1 in Addis Ababa against a spirited home team - the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia.

The Ethiopians dorminated the first half in a stadium full to its capacity with their fans. They had many opportunities to score goals, but had poor finishing. In the second half they started well again, but the Super Eagles had over come their nerves and calmed down. The Nigerians began to play better and took control of the second half.

The Antelopes were still doing well with their speed and passes, and in the 57th minute their persistence yielded the first goal of the match, when Behailu Assefa's crossing from the left flank was misjudged by the Nigerian keeper, Vincent Enyeama. The ball crossed the goal-line before he caught it.

Ten minutes later, on the 67th minutes, the Nigerian star of the game, Emmanuel Emenike, took an individual brilliant action, when he decided to take a stupendous dynamite of a shot that took the goalkeeper, Tassew by surprise at the right hand-side of the goal post, making it 1 - 1.

But the Super Eagles star striker, Emenike, was not yet done, even though he was being tightly marked by the Ethiopian defenders. At the last minute, he beat his maker, Aynalem Hailu, to a long thrust ball from midfield, the defender grabed his hand and pulled him down in the box, the referee awarded Nigeria penalty, which Emenike himself cooly sloted into the right side of the net, making it 2 - 1.

It was a match that all credit should go to both teams. The Ethiopians played a great game, they were just unfortunate to loss, after some wonderful display of football. The Nigerians came back into the match with their experience in international football. The second leg will be played in Calabar, Nigeria on the 16th of November.

After the match, the Nigerian assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, said to the media, ''We are happy with the result. And the boys did well to get this result from what was not an easy game.''

''But we have to tell the players, that there is still 90 minutes to go, so we still have to work hard, to make sure we win the second leg.''

''The first half wasn't very good, but we were happy that the first half ended 0 - 0 and the chief coach spoke to the boys and told them a few things and that helped them play better in the second half,'' the former Eagles striker said.

''We have to give credit to the team as everybody did their jobs,'' Amokachi added.

Jonathan Akpoborie, another former striker of the Super Eagles, said that it was the individual brilliance of Emmanuel Emenike, that gave Nigeria victory.

''I see it as the individual brilliance of Emenike, that took us over this hurdle called Ethiopia.''

''Congrats to the Eagles and Nigerians but they have to work harder ahead of the home tie,'' he said.

While the former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, wrote in his twitter page, that Nigerians should stop arguing about the overall performance of the team, that what matters is qualification. He called the match winner,
''5 star Emenike.''

''Nigerians please stop arguing about the performance, at this stage, all that interest us is qualification. Don't worry be happy, ''5 star Emenike'', he tweeted.

''It was a difficult match, Addis Ababa is always a difficult place to play with fans all over the place supporting the home team,'' Akpoborie said.

''They gave us scare in the first half, but we survived it. In the second half we showed them the stuff of Africa champions. But it is not over, we still have 90 minutes to play before, we start the celebrations,'' Akpoborie added.

The second World Cup play-off of the day, was played between Tunisia and Cameroon in Tunisia. The match ended 0 - 0 and the second leg will be played in Cameroon next month, November. Both sides missed many opportunities to score, especially the home side, which dorminated the first half. The Indomitable Lions came into the match in the second half, and created opportunities which were not utilized.

Some Presidential Inspirations Before WC Play-Offs

This weekend begins the first of the two leg World Cup play-offs in the African zone. The second leg of the play-offs will be played in November, and the aggregate winner after the two legs, will go to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

All the ten teams in contention are putting adequate preparations in place, in order to win the matches. And some of the presidents have tried to inspire their teams before the encounters.

The Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, paid a surprise visit today, to the training camp of the Super Eagles in Addis Ababa, where they will be taking on the Antelopes of Ethiopia tomorrow, Sunday the 13th of October in the first leg of the World Cup play-offs.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

The President told both the players and their officials that he came to tell them that he will always support the national team. He then urged them to go all out and win the match there and also qualify for the World Cup.

He also told them that Nigerians both at home and the diaspora expects
them to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He added that they should not only qualify and make up the numbers in Brazil but have to make an impact in the tournament. He believes that they will qualify.

''I am sure that you will not only qualify for the World Cup, but we are going there not to add up the numbers but to make an impact at the championship,'' he added.

Earlier on this week it was reported in the Nigeria media that the President, has a reward package for the Super Eagles, if they qualify for the World Cup 2014.

In the middle of this week, the Ghanian President John Mahama, also paid a surprise visit to the Ghanaian team (Black Stars) in their training ground to encourage the team, which will be playing against Egypt in Kumasi on Tuesday, 15th of October.

After the training he told the players and officials, ''Lets focus on this match. I took time off to see you. I am the chief supporter of your team, the leader of this country and to tell you that the whole country is solidly behind you.''

''Whatever we will do, is to support you to win this match. We will do our bit but all of us can't go on the pitch so those who are going to represent us can expect nothing but our support.''

''I want to thank you very much, I wish you good luck. We count on you, we will pray for you, we know God is on our side. We will pray to the almighty God to give you victory,'' President John Mahama, said.

The Cameroonian President Paul Biya, intervened to bring back the Indormitable Lions captain, Samuel Etoo, who announced to his team-mates after their last match that he was retiring. The President sent a delegation to go and appeal to Etoo to reconsider his decision. After the meeting, he agreed to come back. So he is expected to lead the team in tomorrow's duel against Tunisia.

This was not the first time President Biya has acted to bring back a quality player who retired. In 1990, he brought back Roger Miller, to play in the world Cup. By bringing back the highly decorated Samuel Etoo, the President wants to make sure that the team has a more better chance of winning and qualifying.

Ivory Coast And Burkina Faso Wins Their First Play-offs

The first two of the five World Cup play-offs for this weekend were played today Saturday, the 12th of October. The Stallions of Burkina Faso triumphed 3 - 2 against the visiting Algerian team in Ouagadougou, while the Elephants of Ivory Coast won 3 - 1 at home in Abidjan.

At the last minutes of the encounter between Burkina Faso and Algeria, the home team was awarded a controversial penalty by the Zambian referee, Janny Sikazwe, which was taken after a strong protest from the Algerian players.

The referee thought that the ball touched, Essaid Belkalem, even though he had his hands behind him, when the ball was strucked. Anyway, the Burkinabe striker, Aristide Bance, stepped up and took the penalty and scored the time that it mattered most for his team.

Didier Drogba
He had earlier in the first half missed a penalty, so it was brave of him to have decided to take another one, that was at that juncture of the encounter worth millions of dollers. Luckily for him and the country, he did not miss this time around.

After the match the Algeria's assistant coach, Nourredine Kourichi, said that, ''If we win the second leg 1 - 0, it will be enough. The second leg will be difficult for Burkina and for us as well but we are hopeful. We are optimistic.''

In the other match between the Elephants of Ivory Coast and the Terenge Lions of Senegal, the Ivorians scored an early goal through a penalty, by their experienced captain Didier Drogba.

Their second goal was scored by the former Arsenal striker, who now plays for AS Roma, while Salomon Kalou, put the cherry on the cake when he added the third goal. Demba Cisse scored the Senegalese consolation goal.

After the match the Ivorian striker, Salomon kalou, said to BBC, ''We showed today that we can be a team. We scored early, which gave us the confidence to go forward and score more.

''I think it's a good victory. We can be positive about the next round because there is one more game to go, but we did one step and we have to fight to get the second one,'' he added.

The Elephants, are in a good position for the second leg, of the play-offs next month, but you never know with football, anything can happen. The aggregate winner of the two matches will go to the World Cup in Brazil.

Lindsey Vonn Puts ''Sammy de Squirrel'' On Tiger Woods

The number one (Nr 1) golfer in the world, Tiger Woods, was playing in the 2013 President Cup, which he helped USA to eventually win, while his skiing champion girl friend, Lindsey Vonn, was busy having fun by putting a live squirrel on his shoulder as he was seriously watching the game.

Lindsey decided to lighten the atmosphere at the golf course, she borrowed the squirrel from the golfer David Love (111), and placed it on Tiger while everyone around was laughing, Tiger was focused on the game he was watching.

He did not look at what Lindsey was putting on his shoulder, but he did try to push it off without looking at all to see what it was. It was a real funny stuff though, Tiger did not find it so funny initially. But he later laughed about the joke. The name of the squirrel was Sammy.
